December 7, 2023: Dr. Irum Saba, Associate Professor, and Program Director MS-IBF at the School of Business Studies, hosted a Guest Lecture featuring Mufti Sajjad Usmani, Shari'ah Advisor of Salaam Takaful Limited, at IBA Karachi—the lecture aimed to deepen the understanding of ethical finance and Takaful principles among undergraduate students. Mufti Sajjad Usmani expertly explored Shari'ah Justification, emphasizing its significance in contemporary financial practices. A key highlight was elucidating the Wakala Waqf Model, providing students with insights into its functioning and ethical foundations.
The lecture also focused on drawing sharp contrasts between conventional insurance and Takaful. Mufti Sajjad Usmani's comparative analysis highlighted the ethical considerations that set Takaful apart, allowing students to evaluate the moral dimensions of financial practices critically. This exposure provided a valuable bridge between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications, enhancing students' comprehension of responsible and sustainable finance.
