About the Buddy Program
The IBA-SBS Buddy Program is designed to help new students (freshies) smoothly transition into campus life by pairing them with experienced senior students (buddies) who act as their guide throughout their first year at IBA-SBS. As a buddy, they act as a support system, and familiar face, helping freshies navigate university life, settle into the environment, and feel welcomed within the IBA community.
Buddies play a key role in helping freshies feel at home while gaining valuable leadership and interpersonal skills themself.
Why It Matters
Starting university in a new environment can be overwhelming, and having a familiar face makes a huge difference. This program:
- Helps freshies settle in faster, reducing homesickness, course related confusions and social anxiety.
- Supports freshies in adjusting to IBA’s academic system, culture, and campus life.
- Promotes cultural exchange and builds a diverse, connected student community.
- Creates a sense of belonging for freshies who might feel isolated or shy in a new environment.
- Provides valuable leadership, communication, and buddying experience for senior students’ personal and professional growth.
How to make best use of Buddy Program?
To get the most out of the Buddy Program, freshies are expected to:
- Attend buddy meetups and stay responsive to messages.
- Explore campus with their buddy and seek guidance when needed.
- Respect their buddy’s time and commitments.
- Be open and honest about challenges, whether academic, social, or personal.
- Share feedback with OUG-SBS during check-ins to improve the program.
Do’s and Don’ts
✅ Do:
- Engage actively and stay connected with your buddy.
- Ask questions about academics, campus life, and opportunities.
- Participate in events and society recommendations shared by your buddy.
- Be respectful, polite, and professional in interactions.
❌ Don’t:
- Ignore your buddy’s attempts to connect.
- Ask for assignments, quizzes, or projects.
- Misuse the relationship for favors beyond the program’s purpose.
- Forget gratitude – a simple “thank you” goes a long way in keeping the bond respectful.
